I am sorry I slacked off on writing everyday these past several months. I took an extended vacation, I guess! It has been a busy last few months and now it is time to settle into a routine again. This time around a more healthful routine.
I can’t believe it has been two weeks now since my daughter Bonnie and my grandson Christopher flew in from Minneapolis for a fun-filled visit. The above picture is Bonnie and Chris arriving. My two other grandkids, Miranda and David, ran up to the escalator and escorted them to the baggage claim where Kym and I were waiting for them.
Bonnie is my second to youngest child, and Chris is my oldest grandchild. I wish they didn’t live so far away. I don’t know how mother’s did it before instant emails and cell phones. I could not imagine waving goodbye to your child as they road off across the prairies in a wagon and headed off west to parts unknown. Letters took weeks to arrive, if at all. Not knowing if your baby’s wagon train met up with danger from nature or other humans would have driven me crazy. Ask my kids, I am always calling them on their cell phones with the same questions - “Did you arrive ok?”. “How was your day/appointment/etc”, and so on.
After we left the airport, we visited San Diego’s Old Town and walked around the stores for a little bit. The grandkids got such delicacies as chocolate covered gummy worms to snack on. After lunch at The Sizzler, we arrived at my house where the grandkids immediately recognized the Wii controls sitting on the table between Grandma and Grandpa’s recliners.
They actually played quietly on the Wii for about 3 hours. This was probably the only time the cousins didn’t act like siblings during their visit. You know… “Mom, David is bothering us”, “Mom! They won’t let me sing at the top of my lungs”…
Kyle, Kym and Jeff manned the firing of the grill
Bonnie and I worked in the kitchen while Grandpa played Wii with the grandkids.
Honey loved the attention from everyone
and Bonnie made a fantastic salad. My parents, sisters and brothers all came over for the barbeque. It was the first time we have all been together in the same place in over 20+ years.
I love this picture of my four babies, left to right: Kyle - 20, Bonnie - 27, Jeff - 30 and Kym - 33.
with me
with my parents
and finally, Honey happy to have Jeff home to pay attention to her!
Bonnie had called me back in August to arrange her and Chris’ visit during Chris’ school break 2 weeks ago. It seemed like that week would never get here. Now it has been two weeks past. I boo hoo’d for several days after Bonnie and Chris left. The hardest part of being a mom is letting your kids grow up and have a life of their own. All you moms with your babies still underfoot…. enjoy it while you can. Time really does fly.
